Will Oldham is now releasing material under the name "Bonnie Prince Billie. Information about the two releases below comes from The More Frequently Updated Will Oldham Discography

1998 7" Bonnie Prince Billie, by Will Oldham & friends, Limited edition tour single (Italian tour spring 1998)
I Am Drinking Again,
Dreaming My Dreams
Domino, Rug 67cd1998 12"/CDs

1998 7" Black Dissimulation,
by Bonnie Brince Billie
Black Dissimulation,
No Such As What I Want,
All City
Nomad

1998 7"?? by Bonnie Prince Billie , A single of Will doing covers of two Kevin Loyne's songs. A 1000 limited edition. LowFly Records

"Western Music", a four song EP from Spanish Labels Acuarela / Ovni came out and featured Mick Turner and Jim White from the Dirty 3. D3 violinist Warren Ellis did not make the recordings apparently due to passport trouble.

Will toured Australia and New Zealand in January with the all star line up of Liam Hayes, aka Plush, on keys and also Mick and Jim once again from the D3. The Dirty 3 seem to be touring the US about the same time as a supposed Will tour, so another teaming up could be a probable maybe?

Will Oldham covers Louisville artist David Allan Coe. (In My Mind was played live a lot during the Australian tour, and was awesome). From www.ajaxrecords.com/:

"OLDHAM, WILL / RISING SHOTGUN In My Mind b/w Spotlight 7" (Palace) $3.20 Two David Allan Coe covers, recorded down in Louisville."

Drag City, www.dragcity.com have a special web-only cdsingle from Will Oldhams recent Italian tour. Under the title, "Bonnie Prince Billy", will delivers a great original "I am drinking again", and a suprising cover. Good to see Drag City at least have half a website up nowadays :)

Audio samples from these new releases and video from Will's recent Australian tour will be up by the end of May. Please, anyone who has news, dont forget to email me david@thehub.com.au, it gets boring trying to keep track of this stuff.

Joya is Out

The new Will Oldham album is starting to turn up in record stores around the globe, you can view a scan of the sleeve here

Early copies of the CD also come with a 3 song bonus CD, there is a realaudio sample of one of these songs, "Joya", in the images/audio area.

New Will Oldham EP

As well as the "Little Joya" bonus e.p that will come with early copies of the new album, there also appears to be an entirely new EP, rumoured to feature members of the Dirty 3 as Will's backing band.

Here are some details and a contact address....

OVNI Records, in colaboration with ACUARELA Records, has released a new cdsingle from WILL OLHAM/PALACE and produced by Steve Albini, called "Western music".

This record contains four exclusive songs not included in "Joya" album: "Three photographs", "Jump in Jump in Come in Come in", "Always Bathing in the Evening", and "Western song for J.LL.",  everything sounds endearing, elegant and uplifting.

The CD will be available via Drag City as usual, or from the following addresses in Spain:

NEW WILL OLDHAM ALBUM TO BE RELEASED ON DRAG CITY, OCTOBER 27.

Will's first album since dropping the Palace title is finally almost here.

Its to be called "Joya", it seems.

Here's some info from the Spunk magazine www site:

"With his Palace boarded up, Will Oldham goes under his own name on the new full length record titled "Joya".

Less intense than many Palace releases, yet equally as engrossing, "Joya" is Will at his smoothest. Some tracks are almost VU-like in their relaxed groove.

Track list: O Let It Be
Antagonism
New Gypsy
Under What Was Opression
The Gator
Open Your Heart
Rider
Be Still and Know God (Don't be Shy)
Apocalypse
No!
I am Still What I Meant to Be
Bolden Boile Boy
Idea and Deed

"Joya" will be released in early October on Drag City."
